At six years old I built a Barbie barn
With Lincoln Logs and bitty bales of hay,
And Lego-troughs to drink lined with blue yarn –
A stall for each blonde doll to spend her day.
To keep the peace I staged a room-wide vote
For President of These United Toys.
With gratitude, a lump lodged in my throat,
I got the nod, thanked all the girls and boys.
To celebrate, I launched a lottery,
One Barbie won the million dollar check
And better still, a lovely jaunt with me –
Stroll around the house, leash around her neck.
And though the Barbie-torture’s long since passed,
I still remain a cocky, bossy, ass
